You Are Invited to the Wonderworld of the Lacondon Mayan
The ancestors of the Lacondon Mayan retreated from the Yucatan during the final stage of the fiercely contested Spanish Conquest of the Yucatan, anthropologists and historians say.
They retreated to the caves of the mountains of the Lacondon Jungle to continue their resistance to the Spanish, to continue their resistance to control and oppression from outsiders.
In these caves which they knew to be portals to other worlds, they entered the wonderworld of the Lacondon Jungle. They saw that this wonderworld covers the earth if you are only able to see. They reconsecrated the sacred places in the ruined cities of the classical age. They learned to make gardens in the jungle and to see the jungle as a great garden with all the food and medicine that they would ever need. The lakes, caves and waterfalls became their cathedrals. And the greatest cathedral was the jungle and its mystery.
They built their godhouses and on the full moon during their Baluum Ceremonies they celebrated the divinity encarnate in the human, the human incarnate in God, in the sacrement of the sacred medicine, baoxche.
The Lacondon Mayans say the Lacondon Mayans always lived in the Lacondon Jungle. And there is no contradiction between what is said by the anthropologists and historians and the truth spoken by the Lacondon Mayans.
In the 1950's the Lacondon Mayans ran out of jungle to keep between themselves and the outside world. In the 1970's Pentocostal Evangelico missionaries began their efforts to negate the Lacondon Mayan experience of their wonderworld, and to destroy the Lacondon Mayan culture. Since then the Lacondon Mayans' struggle has been to preserve their experience, their seeing of the world as they find their way in the modern world.
At the Campamento Tucan Verde you can share in the Lacondon Mayans experiencing and seeing of their wonderworld of the Lacondon Jungle. And you can also observe and help in their struggle to remain free from the control and oppression of outsiders.
